Hello, I’m Nanda and this is my first blog.
Well, no, that’s not true.
As a millennial, I’ve had my fair share of blogspots and Tumblr blogs, but I’ve never been one to post. The thing is, I was always reading but never participating in any of the fun. Well, I want to change that now.
I’m someone who is never not reading something (god forbid I’m left alone with my thoughts), and I read mostly literary fiction, horrors, thrillers and mysteries, though I also enjoy some fantasy, YA, sci-fi… I am not a huge fan of romance unless the couple is being chased by a murderer or one of them turns out to be a ghost.
I also love photography, though I am by far only an amateur. I like photographing both people and landscapes, though my favorite model is by far my cat⎯if only he would stand still! These days I mostly use my camera to record memories of my trips.
For this blog, I am planning on combining these two passions: literature and photography. With each review, I will attempt to capture the essence of the book or showcase the setting through both my analysis and my own personal images. The idea for this fusion came from a friend who patiently listened to my frustrated babbling about wanting to create and book reviews and suggested combining these two hobbies (thank you!!). I’m excited for this blog to become a creative outlet for me. Hopefully, this can help me come out of my shell little by little.
You see, the truth is, I’m a baby writer.
I’m currently finishing the first draft of my first novel and… I couldn’t be more scared, lost, frustrated (did I say scared?). As I learn about the writing craft, I’ve become a new type of reader⎯one that likes to dissect novels by structure, character arc, POV, psychic distance, causality, symbolism, etc. While I learn from what authors do in their own work, I slowly pick up tips on what works and what doesn’t, and most importantly, why. Hopefully, by reviewing books, I will gain knowledge I could incorporate in my own writing.
I hope at least some of what I publish here in the future will be entertaining/relatable/useful. And please share your thoughts if you feel comfortable. I’d love for this blog to become a little safe space where we can exchange ideas!
And I’m always open for book suggestions! As long as I’m alive, so is my tbr.
